D(+)-Galactosamine hydrochloride

Acute Liver Injury Inducer

D(+)-Galactosamine hydrochloride is a well-characterized experimental toxin that primarily induces acute liver injury through the generation of reactive oxygen species and depletion of uridine triphosphate (UTP) nucleotides. Its administration can also lead to renal dysfunction, making renal failure a potential complication during the progression of liver damage. This compound is commonly utilized in animal models, particularly in studies involving lipopolysaccharide/D(+)-galactosamine-induced acute liver injury, serving as a relevant model for investigating fulminant hepatic failure.
