D(+)-Raffinose pentahydrate

Biofilm-inhibitory Agent

D(+)-Raffinose pentahydrate is a biofilm-inhibitory agent targeting LecA and GtfC, with an inhibitory concentration (Kd) of 32 μM. It effectively reduces cyclic diguanylate (c-di-GMP) levels by enhancing the activity of a c-di-GMP specific phosphodiesterase and disrupts glycosyltransferase function. This compound also diminishes IL-4 and IL-5 mRNA expression and has demonstrated biofilm-inhibitory effects against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Streptococcus mutans, making it relevant for research in microbial infections and allergic responses.
