Decoquinate

Quinolone Derivative

Decoquinate is a selective inhibitor of the mitochondrial bc1 complex, primarily targeting Eimeria spp. sporozoites and first-generation schizonts, as well as Plasmodium spp. This quinolone derivative disrupts electron transfer by competitively binding to the cytochrome b system within mitochondria, effectively impairing the energy metabolism of the parasites, which hinders their development and reproduction. Decoquinate exhibits significant anticoccidial activity, thus preventing intestinal damage and enhancing growth performance in host animals. It is primarily utilized in veterinary research for the prevention and treatment of coccidiosis in ruminants and poultry.
