Demeton-S-methyl sulfone

Organophosphorus Insecticide Metabolite

Demeton-S-methyl sulfone is a metabolite of the organophosphorus insecticide demeton. It primarily serves as a substrate for metabolic degradation processes. In sugar beet cell suspension cultures, demeton-S-methyl sulfone is formed through the oxidation of demeton S-methyl sulfoxide. During its metabolic activity, it undergoes thioester bond cleavage, resulting in the production of ethanethiols, which can be further converted into S-methylated compounds or S-glucosides. This compound is pertinent in studies related to pesticide metabolism and plant physiology.
