Dexpramipexole

Mitochondrial Protective Agent

Dexpramipexole, a mitochondrial protective agent, effectively permeates the blood-brain barrier. Its mechanisms include the upregulation of Parkin, PINK1, GPX4, and FSP1, as well as binding to mitochondrial F1/Fo-ATP synthase. Dexpramipexole has demonstrated notable biological activities, such as inducing mitophagy, inhibiting ferroptosis, and alleviating neuroinflammation. This compound is applicable in research fields including eosinophilic asthma, myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury, sepsis-associated encephalopathy, and analgesia.
