Didesethyl chloroquine

Chloroquine Metabolites

Didesethyl chloroquine, the principal metabolite of chloroquine, primarily targets cardiac mitochondria. It exhibits significant myocardial inhibitory activity, reducing calcium binding and accumulation while inducing mitochondrial swelling and conformational changes. Additionally, didesethyl chloroquine demonstrates inhibitory effects on the growth of Plasmodium falciparum strains. This compound serves as a valuable tool for researching malaria, chikungunya virus infections, and various cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
