Diethyltoluamide

Insect Repellents Ingredient

Diethyltoluamide (DEET) functions primarily as an insect repellent, targeting various biting insects such as mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, chiggers, and leeches. Its efficacy in deterring these pests has made it the most commonly used active ingredient in insect repellents. However, research indicates that diethyltoluamide can exhibit hepatotoxicity and may lead to a range of physiological, pharmacological, and behavioral abnormalities, including motor deficits and impairments in learning and memory.
