Djenkolic acid

Sulfur-containing Amino Acid

Djenkolic acid is a sulfur-containing amino acid that functions by de-inhibiting the sulfate uptake system in Pseudomonas fluorescens. This compound is known to induce supersaturation in the urinary system, resulting in the formation of djenkolic acid crystals. Such crystallization can lead to urinary tract obstruction and is associated with acute kidney injury, making it a valuable tool for research into renal pathophysiology and urinary disorders.
