Dothiepin

antidepressant agent

Dothiepin is an antidepressant agent primarily acting as a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor while exerting substantial sedative and anxiolytic effects. Its mechanism enhances noradrenergic neurotransmission by inhibiting neuronal uptake of norepinephrine. Additionally, Dothiepin serves as a histamine H1 receptor antagonist, demonstrating a favorable cardiotoxicity profile. This compound also exhibits significant analgesic activity in conditions such as psychogenic facial pain, idiopathic fibromyalgia syndrome, and rheumatoid arthritis, making it valuable for diverse therapeutic research applications.
