Etebenecid
Uricosuric Agent
Etebenecid is a uricosuric agent that primarily enhances the renal excretion of uric acid by inhibiting its reabsorption in the proximal tubules. In addition to its role in managing hyperuricemia, Etebenecid also inhibits the renal tubular secretion of penicillin, potentially increasing plasma concentrations of the antibiotic. This dual functionality makes it valuable for research applications in studying renal pharmacokinetics and gout treatment strategies.
