Evariquinone

Neuroprotective Agent

Evariquinone is an anthraquinone compound with neuroprotective properties derived from the endophytic fungus Colletotrichum sp. JS-0367 of mulberry. It exhibits direct antioxidant activity by inhibiting excessive phosphorylation of the JNK, ERK1/2, and p38 MAPK signaling pathways, ultimately reducing neuronal apoptosis through suppression of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and calcium ion (Ca2+) levels. Evariquinone is a valuable tool for investigating neurological disorders related to glutamate excitotoxicity, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and cerebral ischemia.
