FdUMP triethylammonium

Intracellular Active Form of 5-FU

FdUMP triethylammonium is the intracellular active form of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and serves as a potent inhibitor of thymidylate synthase. Once inside the cell, 5-FU is converted to FdUMP, which subsequently forms a ternary complex with thymidylate synthase and its cofactor, 5,10-methylene tetrahydrofolate. This interaction effectively inhibits thymidylate synthase activity, leading to a decrease in DNA synthesis. FdUMP triethylammonium is commonly utilized in cancer research and therapeutic studies involving antifolate mechanisms.
