Fotocaine

Photochromic Ion Channel Blocker

Fotocaine is a photochromic blocker of voltage-gated ion channels. It is efficiently taken up by neurons in brain slices, allowing for optical control of action potential firing when exposed to light wavelengths of 350 to 450 nm. This compound is primarily utilized in analgesia research, facilitating investigations into pain mechanisms and the modulation of neuronal excitability.
