γ-Kainylglutamic acid

Neuroexcitation Antagonist

γ-Kainylglutamic acid, a dipeptide antagonist of neuroexcitation, selectively inhibits amino acid-induced stimulation. It effectively blocks Na+ fluxes triggered by the neuroexcitant N-methyl-D-aspartic acid in brain slices and demonstrates anticonvulsant activity. Notably, γ-Kainylglutamic acid protects against picrotoxin-induced convulsions in mice, with an EC50 value of 0.17 μmol. This compound is valuable for research in neuroscience and pharmacology, particularly in the study of excitatory neurotransmission and seizure management.
