Glutamate dehydrogenase

Enzyme

Glutamate dehydrogenase is an enzyme that catalyzes the oxidative deamination of L-glutamate to alpha-ketoglutarate while facilitating the conversion of ammonia and NAD(P)+ to NAD(P)H. This enzyme plays a critical role in amino acid metabolism and nitrogen assimilation in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems. It is widely utilized in research applications for the enzymatic determination of ammonia, alpha-ketoglutaric acid, and L-glutamate, contributing to studies in cellular metabolism and energy production.
