Guaiol

Bioactive Sesquiterpene Alcohol

Guaiol is a bioactive sesquiterpene alcohol known for its diverse biological activities, including anti-proliferative, anti-inflammatory, and diuretic effects. It induces apoptosis in non-small cell lung cancer cells by modulating the stability of RAD51 through autophagy mechanisms. Additionally, guaiol exhibits insecticidal properties and directly targets parasites, inhibiting their growth by disrupting the kinetoplast and plasma membrane, with an IC50 of 0.01 µg/mL against amastigotes. This compound is applicable in research focused on cancer, infectious diseases, cardiovascular health, and inflammation.
