Guanidinoethyl sulfonate

Taurine Depletor

Guanidinoethyl sulfonate is a taurine transport inhibitor that functions as a competitive antagonist of glycine receptors (GlyR), with an IC50 of 565 μM. This compound possesses both weak agonistic and antagonistic properties on GABAA receptors. By inhibiting taurine transmembrane transport and blocking glycine-mediated chloride influx, it may help to regulate brain pH—an essential factor in neuroprotection. Guanidinoethyl sulfonate is valuable for research focused on neuroprotection in ischemic brain injury.
