Guanosine triphosphate

Cellular Metabolism Regulator

Guanosine triphosphate (GTP) functions as a crucial nucleotide and regulator of cellular metabolism. It promotes ribosomal DNA localization, pre-rRNA transcription, and ribosome biogenesis by interacting with RNA polymerase I and GPN proteins (GPN1/3). GTP serves as a metabolic gatekeeper, linking MYC-dependent ribosome biogenesis to nucleotide availability and facilitating essential processes such as protein and nucleic acid synthesis as well as cellular signal transduction. In the context of small cell lung cancer with elevated MYC expression, GTP accumulation via the IMPDH-driven synthetic pathway influences apoptosis and cell division. GTP is investigated in studies related to small cell lung cancer, hepatoblastoma, and broader aspects of cellular metabolism.
