Hercynine

Redox Metabolite of Ergothioneine

Hercynine is a redox metabolite of Ergothioneine, serving as an important intermediate in various biological systems. This compound is primarily derived from the fine leaf algae Schizosaccharomyces cerevisiae and is also present in honey bees. Although Hercynine does not exhibit scavenging activity against hydroxyl radicals (•OH), it plays a crucial role in redox biology and metabolic studies, making it valuable for research applications related to oxidative stress and antioxidant mechanisms.
