Hippuric acid

Metabolite

Hippuric Acid is an orally active metabolite that results from the metabolism of polyphenols and benzoic acid by intestinal microorganisms. It exhibits biological activities such as decreasing NRF2 and MMP9 levels, leading to reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation. Furthermore, Hippuric Acid activates TGFβ/SMAD signaling pathways, demonstrating potential for therapeutic applications in conditions like hyperuricemia and colitis. Additionally, it serves as a valuable tool in cardiovascular disease research.
