(-)-Hydroxycitric acid lactone

ATP-citrate Lyase Inhibitor

(-)-Hydroxycitric acid lactone is a potent inhibitor of ATP-citrate lyase, an enzyme that catalyzes the extramitochondrial cleavage of citrate into oxaloacetate and acetyl-CoA. By inhibiting this enzyme, (-)-Hydroxycitric acid lactone reduces the availability of acetyl-CoA, thereby limiting fatty acid synthesis. This compound is utilized in obesity research and has potential applications in weight management studies, making it a valuable tool for investigating metabolic pathways related to energy balance and lipid metabolism.
