Isoflurane

Volatile Anaesthetic

Isoflurane is a volatile general anesthetic primarily used for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia. It acts by binding to and enhancing the GABAA receptor, leading to increased inhibitory neurotransmission. Additionally, isoflurane inhibits electron transfer in the mitochondrial respiratory complex I, contributing to its anesthetic effects and potential neuroprotective properties. This compound is valuable in both clinical settings and research applications focused on anesthetic mechanisms and neurobiology.
