L-Cysteic acid

Oxidation Product of L-cystine

L-Cysteic acid is an oxidation product of L-cystine and serves as a substrate for glutamate decarboxylase and cysteine sulfinic acid decarboxylase II (GADCase/CADCaseII). It exhibits a high affinity for cysteine sulfinic acid decarboxylase I, with a Km value of 0.22 mM. Additionally, L-Cysteic acid is actively taken up by synaptosomes via a Na+-dependent transport system, making it valuable for research into neurotransmission and amino acid metabolism.
