Lactitol monohydrate

Analogue of Lactulose

Lactitol monohydrate is a sugar analog of lactulose, functioning primarily as a prebiotic. It is fermented by intestinal flora, enhancing the growth of beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium while inhibiting pathogenic species. This compound increases volatile fatty acid production and reduces ammonia levels, making it useful in studying conditions such as constipation and hepatic encephalopathy. Additionally, Lactitol monohydrate serves as an alternative sweetener in various applications.
