Ladirubicin

Antitumor Agent

Ladirubicin (PNU-159548) is an antitumor agent derived from Daunorubicin. It functions through DNA intercalation and alkylation, effectively inhibiting DNA replication and transcription, leading to significant DNA damage and antitumor activity. With its high lipophilicity, Ladirubicin has the potential to penetrate the blood-brain barrier, making it a candidate for treating central nervous system tumors. However, it is important to note that Ladirubicin can exhibit toxicity by suppressing bone marrow activity.
