LANA

KSHV Latency-Associated Nuclear Antigen

LANA (Latency-Associated Nuclear Antigen) functions as a critical anchor for the Kaposi's Sarcoma Herpesvirus (KSHV) genome, facilitating its attachment to host cell chromatin. This mechanism ensures the synchronized replication of episomal KSHV DNA with the host chromosome, thereby preserving the virus's latent state within the host cell population. LANA also plays a role in the regulation of both viral and host gene expression, contributing to cell survival. Research applications include investigating the viral DNA tethering structure and its implications in persistent viral infection and pathogenesis.
