Leucic acid

Drug Metabolism

Leucic acid (α-Hydroxyisocaproic acid) primarily targets the HCAR2 receptor, influencing metabolic pathways such as AMPK and ERK1/2 phosphorylation. This compound exhibits inhibitory effects on lipid synthesis and promotes fatty acid catabolism, which may contribute to reduced adiposity and enhanced lean mass. Additionally, leucic acid demonstrates anti-inflammatory properties by suppressing the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines and attenuating inflammation-related gene expression. Its role in decreasing basal protein synthesis and myotube atrophy makes leucic acid relevant for research in obesity and related metabolic disorders.
