Lipid X

LPS Antagonist

Lipid X is a 2,3-diacylglucosamine-1-phosphate that acts as a lipopolysaccharide (LPS) antagonist. It demonstrates notable protective effects by inhibiting the production of tumor necrosis factor, reducing monocyte procoagulant activity, and mitigating neutrophil priming. This reagent has applications in researching Gram-negative bacterial sepsis, endotoxemia, and associated pulmonary hypertension, while exhibiting low toxicity and no in vitro antibacterial activity. Additionally, Lipid X has been observed to reduce mortality rates in models of Gram-negative infections and endotoxin exposure, indicating its potential therapeutic relevance in inflammatory contexts.
