Lipoxygenase, general

Dioxygenase

Lipoxygenase, general (LOX) is a dioxygenase that catalyzes the conversion of polyunsaturated fatty acids, including linoleic acid and arachidonic acid, into corresponding hydroperoxides. This enzyme plays a critical role in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes and lipoxins, which are crucial mediators in inflammatory responses. Lipoxygenase, general is commonly utilized in biochemical studies to investigate metabolic pathways and the effects of lipid mediators in various biological processes.
