Marcfortine A

Nematode

Marcfortine A is an indole alkaloid that targets nematodes, demonstrating potent nematocidal activity against the parasitic nematode Haemonchus contortus with an LD99 of 0.06 μg/mL. It effectively inhibits the motility of adult worms, with an EC50 of 2 μM, and has been shown to eliminate multiple species, including Toxocara colubriformis and Ostertagia ostertagi, from experimentally infected jirds. In addition, Marcfortine A dose-dependently inhibits nicotine-induced calcium mobilization in SH-SY5Y and TE-671 cells expressing human nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, providing valuable insights for research in neuromuscular signaling and parasitic infections.
