Melarsoprol

Anti-trypanosomiasis Agent

Melarsoprol is a melaminophenylarsine-derived trivalent organic arsenical that serves as a crucial anti-trypanosomiasis agent. It effectively targets and inhibits the growth of trypanosomes, the causative agents of African sleeping sickness, and induces apoptosis in lymphoid leukemic cells. Additionally, Melarsoprol has the capability to cross the blood-brain barrier, making it essential for treating central nervous system involvement in trypanosomiasis. Its application in both in vitro and in vivo studies enhances understanding of its therapeutic effects and mechanisms of action.
