Micrococcal nuclease

Endonuclease

Micrococcal nuclease is an endonuclease derived from Staphylococcus aureus, known for its ability to efficiently digest both single-stranded and double-stranded nucleic acids. This enzyme specifically targets and cleaves AT- or AU-rich regions in DNA and RNA, making it valuable for applications in nucleic acid analysis and degradation studies. Additionally, Micrococcal nuclease serves as a useful indicator for detecting Staphylococcus aureus contamination in various biological samples.
