Mycophenolate mofetil (hydrochloride)

Immunosuppressant

Mycophenolate mofetil (hydrochloride) is an oral immunosuppressant that acts primarily by inhibiting de novo purine synthesis, leading to significant reductions in B and T lymphocyte proliferation, as well as smooth muscle cell activity. This compound demonstrates potent antiproliferative and anti-inflammatory properties, making it valuable in research on allograft arteriosclerosis and chronic rejection mechanisms. Mycophenolate mofetil hydrochloride effectively mitigates adventitial inflammation, medial necrosis, and intimal thickening in rat aortic allograft models, and it can influence lymphocyte IL-2 receptor expression. Additionally, this compound has been shown to exhibit certain toxicity when combined with FK506 in specific xenotransplantation studies.
