NAPQI

Acetaminophen Metabolite

NAPQI (N-acetyl-p-benzoquinone imine) is a toxic metabolite of acetaminophen that primarily targets glutathione and cysteine residues in proteins. Under normal conditions, NAPQI is detoxified by glutathione, but in cases of glutathione depletion, it can lead to oxidative stress and cell death, particularly in hepatic tissues. NAPQI is significant in studies related to acetaminophen toxicity and the mechanisms of liver injury, making it a valuable tool for biochemical research and toxicology applications.
