Haem Sequesterer

NCR247 is a haem sequesterer that forms stable 6:6 hexamers with haem, rendering both haem and iron biologically inaccessible. This defensin-like nodule cysteine-rich peptide induces an iron-starvation response in both Sinorhizobium meliloti and Medicago truncatula, enhancing nitrogenase activity and supporting nitrogen-fixing symbiosis. Notably, NCR247 exhibits equivalent haem-binding activity between its D- and L-enantiomers. This reagent is valuable for research into infections, periodontal disease, and toxoplasmosis.
