Octinoxate

Ingredient of Sunscreens, Thyroid Hormone Receptor Agonist, ultraviolet filter

Octinoxate (Octyl methoxycinnamate) serves as a thyroid hormone receptor agonist, effectively reducing levels of triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4), as well as transcription of genes associated with type II deiodinase (deio2) in Japanese Medaka. It is widely utilized as a safe ultraviolet (UV) filter in sunscreen formulations, offering protection in the aquatic environment. Additionally, Octinoxate modulates hyaluronan (HA) metabolism by inhibiting CYP1A1 and CYP1B1 in a PI3K pathway-dependent manner in human keratinocytes. It also demonstrates anti-estrogenic and anti-androgenic effects in both in vitro and in vivo studies.
