Orcinol

Melanogenesis Inhibitor

Orcinol (3,5-Dihydroxytoluene) is a melanogenesis inhibitor targeting the MAPK/ERK signaling pathway. It effectively reduces melanogenesis in B16F10 cells by downregulating the expression of key melanogenic enzymes, including MITF, tyrosinase (TYR), TRP1, and DCT. Additionally, Orcinol demonstrates DPPH radical scavenging activity and can influence nitrogen balance in animal models. This compound is relevant for research applications in cancer and metabolic diseases, making it a valuable reagent in biochemical studies.
