Orthosporin

Secondary Metabolite

Orthosporin ((+)-Orthosporin) is a phytotoxic isocoumarin and a microbial secondary metabolite derived from the endophytic fungus Lasiodiplodia tbeobromae. This compound exhibits significant antibacterial activity against bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Additionally, Orthosporin demonstrates antioxidant properties by scavenging DPPH radicals and possesses antiviral effects, including the inhibition of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase activity. These characteristics make Orthosporin valuable for research in antibacterial, antioxidant, and antiviral studies.
