Paxilline

BK Channel Blocker

Paxilline is a potent blocker of the large-conductance calcium-activated potassium (BK) channels. This indole alkaloid mycotoxin, derived from Penicillium paxilli, also inhibits sarco/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-stimulated ATPase (SERCA) with varying IC50 values ranging from 5 μM to 50 μM across different SERCA isoforms. Paxilline demonstrates significant anticonvulsant and neuroprotective activities, as well as exhibiting antioxidant properties, making it a valuable tool in neurobiology and pharmacological research.
