Phenicin

HMGCR Inhibitor

Phenicin is an irreversible inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR), a key enzyme in the cholesterol biosynthesis pathway. Isolated from the microbial cultures of Penicillium phoeniceum and Penicillium rubrum, Phenicin effectively hampers the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate. This compound serves as a valuable tool for researchers studying lipid metabolism and cholesterol regulation.
