PhIP

Meat-derived Carcinogen

PhIP (2-Amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine) is a potent meat-derived carcinogen known for its DNA-damaging and mutagenic properties. As one of the most abundant heterocyclic amines generated during the cooking of meat, PhIP exhibits estrogenic activity, which may enhance its tissue-specific carcinogenic effects. This compound is critical for research into cancer biology, assessing dietary risks, and understanding mechanisms of mutagenesis.
