Phomalactone

Lactone Metabolite

Phomalactone is a lactone metabolite derived from the fungus Nigrospora sphaerica, recognized for its capacity to inhibit the mycelial growth of Phytophthora infestans, exhibiting a minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 2.5 mg/L. This compound demonstrates phytotoxic properties, notably in Z. elegans and other plant species, by hindering seedling growth and inducing electrolyte leakage from the photosynthetic tissues of Z. elegans leaves and cucumber cotyledons. Phomalactone serves as a valuable tool for investigating plant-pathogen interactions and studying phytotoxic mechanisms.
