Phosphoglycerate kinase, yeast

Glycolytic Enzyme

Phosphoglycerate kinase, yeast (PGK) is a glycolytic enzyme that catalyzes the reversible transfer of phosphate from 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate (1,3-BPG) to ADP, resulting in the production of ATP and 3-phosphoglycerate (3-PG). This enzyme is also involved in gluconeogenesis, facilitating the conversion of ADP and 3-PG back to 1,3-BPG. PGK plays a crucial role in energy metabolism and is implicated in various biological processes, including nucleic acid interactions, tumor progression, cell death, and viral replication. It serves as a valuable tool in biochemical research exploring metabolic pathways and cellular functions.
