Prostaglandin H2

Vasoconstrictor

Prostaglandin H2 (PGH2) serves as a potent vasoconstrictor primarily through its action as an endothelium-derived contracting factor. It is a crucial precursor for all prostaglandins and is synthesized by various cell types expressing cyclooxygenases. PGH2 activates PGD2 receptors, including CRTH2 and DP, either directly or via conversion to PGD2 by plasma proteins. Additionally, it promotes eosinophil migration, inhibits platelet aggregation, and facilitates the polymerization of amyloid β1-42 oligomers. Given its diverse biological activities, PGH2 is valuable for research into inflammation and neurodegenerative conditions, particularly Alzheimer's disease.
