Protocatechuate 3,4-dioxygenase

Ring-cleavage Enzyme

Protocatechuate 3,4-dioxygenase is a non-heme iron dioxygenase that plays a critical role in the aromatic ring-cleavage of 3,4-dihydroxybenzoate. This enzyme facilitates the incorporation of two oxygen atoms, resulting in the formation of β-carboxy-cis,cis-muconate. Protocatechuate 3,4-dioxygenase is essential for the β-ketoadipic acid pathway and is predominantly found in marine bacteria, including those associated with the Roseobacter group. This reagent is also isolatable from Pseudomonas aeruginosa, making it suitable for various biochemical and environmental research applications.
