Pyrazinoylguanidine

Antihypertensive Agent

Pyrazinoylguanidine (PZG) is an antihypertensive agent known for its ability to lower both systolic and diastolic blood pressure in patients with primary hypertension. It functions by inhibiting the reabsorption of urea in renal tubules, leading to increased clearance and reduced serum urea levels. Additionally, PZG demonstrates beneficial effects on metabolic parameters in type 2 diabetes, including the reduction of hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, triglycerides, cholesterol, and free fatty acids. Its mechanism does not interfere with the serum concentrations of vital electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, and chloride, making it a valuable tool in hypertension and metabolic research.
