(R)-Citalopram oxalate
Antidepressant Drug
(R)-Citalopram oxalate primarily targets the serotonin transporter (SERT) as an antidepressant drug. It has been characterized as an anticonvulsant and muscle relaxant, exhibiting at least 20-fold weaker inhibition of SERT compared to its enantiomer, S-citalopram (Escitalopram). This compound has been shown to functionally antagonize S-citalopram both in vivo and in vitro, influencing the binding dynamics at the SERT through an allosteric mechanism. Its unique pharmacological profile makes it valuable for research related to depression and serotonin-related pathways.
