(R)-Lotaustralin

Cyanogenic

(R)-Lotaustralin is a cyanogenic compound obtained from Manihot utilissima, functioning primarily as a deterrent in the plant's defense mechanism against herbivory. Upon tissue damage, it is enzymatically hydrolyzed by linamarase, releasing cyanide, which acts as a potent toxin. This compound is valuable for research into plant defense strategies, enzymatic hydrolysis mechanisms, and the effects of cyanogenic compounds in ecological interactions.
