(R)-Reticuline

Enzyme Substrate

(R)-Reticuline, an enzyme substrate, is a crucial intermediate in the biosynthesis of morphinan alkaloids. It plays a significant role in the metabolic pathway of the opium poppy (Papaver somniferum) and can be converted to either (+)-Salutaridine via regioselective and stereoselective oxidative coupling, or undergo O-methylation catalyzed by PSOMT1. This compound serves as a direct precursor for the synthesis of important alkaloids, including morphine, codeine, and thebaine, making it valuable for research in alkaloid biosynthesis and metabolic engineering.
