Rhizocarpic acid

Secondary Metabolite

Rhizocarpic acid is a secondary metabolite derived from lichen with notable antibacterial properties. It effectively inhibits the growth of Gram-positive bacteria, including Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus, and exhibits cytotoxic effects against murine myeloma NS-1 cells. Additionally, Rhizocarpic acid serves as an antioxidant and demonstrates insect antifeedant activity, with an ED50 of 71 μmol/g dry weight against the neonate larvae of the Egyptian cotton leaf worm, Spodoptera littoralis, making it a valuable compound for various biological research applications.
